ABOUT
Omaha-based flutist Sofia Cormack is a multi-faceted musician involved in many aspects of classical music festivals as a performer and clinician, as well as behind-the-scenes work. She has performed at the 2022 National Flute Association (NFA) Convention, 2019 Chicago Flute Festival, and at the University of Nebraska at Omaha Flute Festival in 2019 and 2022. She was also a member of one of the original 12 ensembles selected to perform the NFA commissioned piece, “Oxygen,” for 12 flutes by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Julia Wolfe. Sofia has held clinic and performance work for UNO Flute Festival (2019, 2021). Behind the scenes, Sofia has served as an intern for the 2022 Tampere Flute Fest (Finland) and the 2022 Lincoln Crossroads Music Festival (Nebraska) for which she assisted with the marketing and planning for both festivals.

Sofia earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance from UNO in 2022 where she was a student of Dr. Christine Beard. Continuing her studies at UNO, Sofia will complete her Master of Music degree in Flute Performance in 2024. Omaha Symphony Orchestra Principal flutist Maria Harding and Professor Olga Smola has also served as musical mentors in her studies. She has performed in masterclasses with American flutists Carol Wincenc, Dr. Daniel Carlo, and Dr. Megan Lanz, as well as Canadian flutist Christopher Lee and Italian flutist Sergio Pallottelli.

Through performance, teaching, and sales service, Sofia enjoys connecting with the musical community of Omaha. She enjoys working with flutists of every level and age, seeing their potential and working for their musical goals. Sofia has worked with Omaha Area Youth Orchestras as Assistant Rehearsal Manager. Currently, Sofia serves as flute specialist at the Omaha location for Schmitt Music and Programming Assistant with the Omaha Conservatory of Music.
